The 'Garnacha 3 Ways' 6-pack
The ‘Garnacha 3 Ways’ 6-Pack
Like many corners of the wine world, Spain has seen a stylistic revolution in recent years. The shift is toward wines of freshness and nuance rather than heaviness and high alcohol. If you’ve felt ho-hum about Spanish wines in the past, you need to see what’s happening now.
Our favorite transformation has been with one of Iberia’s oldest products—the Garnacha grape. We’re offering a look at fresh, distinctive styles from three of the most exciting winemakers in Spain.
There’s Anna Espelt’s vivacious Garnacha Blanca she calls ‘Pla de Gates‘. Anna is incredibly skilled and one day we will offer an entire pack dedicated to showing her amazing range. So stay tuned.
For a lighter red, we have Jordi Llorens’ ‘Tosut’—a blend of Garnacha with peppery Syrah. An utter delight, it is nearly Beaujolais-esque in style, with lower alcohol and no added sulfur (but also clean and pure). It is a craveable wine that will stick in your memory, for sure.
And then there’s Cuevas de Arom, the winery of a Master of Wine named Fernando Mora. His ‘Altas Parcelas’ Garnacha is substantive but not dense, with no shortage of airy raspberry fruit, awesome minerality and spice.
Garnacha Blanca/Roig, Anna Espelt, ‘Pla de Gates’, Emporda, Spain, 2022 (2 bottles)
Garnacha/Syrah, Jordi Llorens, ‘Tosut’, Blancafort, Spain, 2020 (2 bottles)
Garnacha, Cuevas de Arom, ‘Altas Parcelas’, Calatayud, Spain, 2020 (2 bottles)
Three perspective-altering Garnachas, 2 bottles each, just $150.
Orders placed today for the ‘Garnacha 3 Ways’ 6-pack will be available for pickup at partner stores on Friday, August 18h.
