The 'Exploring Pax' 6-pack
The ‘Exploring Pax’ 6-pack
Our friend (and favorite maker of Syrah in the USA) Pax Mahle paid a visit this week and we had the pleasure of drinking through all six of his latest releases. They made such a perfect range of wines that we needed to get them on your dinner table, too.
Although he is famous for his spectacular, perfumed Syrahs, Pax makes a wide variety of styles. This pack gets you one bottle each to sample his lineup, from a crisp dry Chenin Blanc, to a skin-contact Trousseau Gris, a charming Gamay, and three of our favorite Syrahs on earth—all of which are made in a natural-but-clean, freshly aromatic style.
Pax is one of the very most skilled winemakers in California and his winery has grown into an incubator for top young talents. You can read about the special place his winery has become in the New York Times. These wines won’t be available for long, so grab yours today.
The ‘Exploring Pax’ 6-pack $239:
Chenin Blanc, Pax, ‘Lyman Ranch’, Amador Co., 2023
This juicy-but-dry style of Chenin Blanc is vivacious enough for a beach chair but will perform best alongside a spread of fresh seafood.
Trousseau Gris, Pax, ‘Fanucchi-Wood Rd’., Russian River Valley, 2022
You may not know this grape, but it has become a darling of forward-thinking makers in CA. This wine exists somewhere between a rosé and an orange wine. It’s silky and very easy to drink.
Gamay, Pax, ‘Rancho Coda’, Sonoma Coast, 2022
Pax’s imitation of Cru Beaujolais, this Gamay has as much spice and substance as it does charm.
Syrah, Pax, ‘The Bench’, Clements Hills, 2022
This vineyard’s sandy soil makes a softer, easy-drinking version of Pax’s highlight grape, but that isn’t to say it lacks layers. This is a terrific style of Syrah for the summer.
Syrah, Pax,’North Coast’, 2022
Although the Sonoma Hillsides bottling is the star of Pax’s show, it’s often this North Coast wine—which is kinda its junior—that shows better in youth and really can light you up. It’s savory, peppery, and meaty, but also fresh and lively.
Syrah, Pax,’Sonoma Hillsides’, 2022
The marquis flagship of Pax’s Syrah-making, this is the very best fruit from all the vineyard parcels Pax loves most. Elegant and impressive, lovers of great French wine will be in happy territory. We hate talking about critics and their scores, but this one has consistently pitched in the high 90’s.
Orders placed this week for the ‘Exploring Pax’ 6-packs will be available for pickup starting Friday, June 21st.
