The 'Loire Superstars Part Deux' 6-pack
Several months ago, we introduced you to a new generation of top-tier talents in France’s winemaking world that are emerging in the Loire Valley. Well, we are at it again with some thrilling updates.
In the pack there’s a fresh vintage of Thibaud Boudignon’s stellar Anjou Blanc and a new name for you, Sylvain Dittiere of La Porte Saint Jean. Sylvain is son-in-law of the Foucault family whose famed winery, Clos Rougeard, is the treasured spark that led to this new wave of greatness. We’ve also secured the last available of our very favorite white wine of the past year, Chateau Yvonne’s Saumur Blanc from the incredible ‘21 vintage.
The ‘Loire Superstars, Part Deux’. Two bottles each, $295:
Anjou Blanc, Thibaud Boudignon, Loire Valley, France, 2022
Thibaud is rapidly becoming the most hyped master of Chenin Blanc from Savennieres. This is a wine he makes from vines just outside the appellation. It’s dry, layered, and wonderfully fresh. His wines are quite coveted and this could be your only shot at snagging some.
Saumur-Champigny, La Porte Saint Jean, Loire Valley, France, 2021
Sylvain not only married into the Foucault family, he learned to make wine at Clos Rougeard, too. This Cabernet Franc is a glimpse into the genius imparted by that storied place. It’s next to impossible to find (or afford) a bottle of Clos Rougeard these days, and the Foucaults are no longer involved, so look to Sylvain as bearer of the family’s brilliant torch.
Saumur Blanc, Chateau Yvonne, Loire Valley, France, 2021
Chateau Yvonne’s Mathieu Vallée absolutely belongs in any list of superstars from France today. His Chenins and Cabernet Francs never fail to thrill. This 2021 Chenin Blanc is incredibly satisfying, matching layers of fruit and rich texture with minerals and awesome fresh acidity. Tired of paying too much for white Burgundy these days? Buy great Saumur Blanc instead.
